Portfolio surgery with Mark Howe

Before I met up with Mark today I thought it would be a good idea to visit his website to find out more about what type of designer he is. I found as a graphic designer he uses humorous concepts and solutions with a focus on image and his style of illustration.
I think his design practice is quite similar to mine.

I picked mainly projects that had an illustrative focus to include in my portfolio for discussion. Near the begging I included this poster I had produced to refresh the walls of urban outfitters. I liked the concept of it however felt that it looked incomplete. Mark agreed and suggested I consider different color schemes and perhaps different stocks or collage. Since this poster is intended for a clothing shop perhaps i could use clothing texture, fabric or denim to replace the block colour.

Since then I have taken up this project again with a new imaginative approach, thank you for the advise Mark :)

portfolio Surgeries

When I heard Si Scott was coming in to speak to our group, I didn't hesitate to sign him as my first choice. I am impressed with his illustrative approach to design and I think this is a similar design practice I could work towards.
Here are a few examples of his work

He has even incorporated his unique 'swirly' image style into this branding campaign for Adidas.
My second choice is Mark Howe, another graphic designer with an image lead design practice. I am looking forward to meeting him as well.
