Yesterdays Presentation

Todays presentation went down well. I had the opportunity to present my plans for over this year as well as what i got up to over the summer. I also got to see what other group members are getting up to as well. My presentation went quite well, although I felt i chocked and missed out a lot of what I had planed to say. However a few people said it was well delivered and I had quite a few questions at the end based around the placement. Some concerns also arose in the end discussion, "how do the briefs relate to my future plans?" "what is the subject matter of your dissertation and how will this relate to your work" I still need to address this.

Statement of intent

This year I am developing briefs so they show my skills and passions as a designer. I aim to make my work as relevant as possible to what I want to accomplish when I graduate. Reflecting on collaborations with relevant designers and studios will help inform the briefs and their nature. With this I hope to develop and learn new practical, beneficial and professional skills. As I have only recently got to grasps with the possibilities of photoshop I want to combined this with illustration and use of colour for digital and print. Composition will take a large factor in completion of work this year, creating posters, flyers and motion graphics (need to use Indesign!!). I enjoy drawing, illustration and colour so want to develop this as much as I can whilst I have the facilities on hand to do so.

What I want and need to do

The sessions from last week have made me consider what I hope to gain from my final year on this course and what actions I will take in order to achieve this.

5 statements to achieve what I want:
  • COMPUTER SOFTWARE- Become more established with the use of Photoshop and Illustrator and get to know the keyboard short cuts to speed up how I use the system.
  • DRAW- I intend to imporve on my drawing skills this year. They should form the main basis of idea generation and project development.
  • PHOTOGRAPHY- Experiment with lighting, frame and produce a project that is photographic based. This also provides a professional means for my to record and document my work for portfolio.
  • AFTER EFFECTS- Referring back to last year's moving image brief. Produce another set of motion graphics to show case new skills and development in the area.
What I need to do
  • Discuss with tutors and peers my work and goals. If they think they are realistic and how to achievable.
  • Read more books relevant to the industry and sector I aim to work in. How will this inform my dissertation?
  • Produce projects to a professional standard which can show case my verity of personal skills as a graphic designer.
  • Produce work relevant to the sector I would like to work in, in the future.
  • Spend plenty of time in the studio and make full use of the college facilities.
